About Dr. Marla Lander

My name is Dr. Marla Lander and I am a board Certified Radiologist and the creator of the Dr. Marla's Wellness Bra. I attended medical school, surgical internship, and radiology residency at (U.C.I.) University of California, Irvine. I was then honored to do specialty fellowship training in Sweden, with Dr. Laszlo Tabar, world famous breast imager, author of many mammography related scientific articles and text books, and internationally acclaimed breast cancer expert. I am currently the Medical Director of "The Breast Health Center" in Southern California. I have been participating in National research efforts and clinical trials related to biopsy techniques and the early detection of breast cancer. I specialize in 3-D ultrasound identification of mammographically "invisible" cancers. Some of my work has been published in oncology/cancer and radiology journals. I really enjoy lecturing to the public and other health care providers about the early detection of breast cancer and breast health in general. I have also participated in numerous health- related T.V. shows and radio interviews.

I am a full time doctor and mother of four young boys. I have always enjoyed being very active and especially love horseback riding, hiking, skateboarding and aerobics. I used to be a runner as well. I am a firm believer in exercise and good nutrition. It is very important to have the proper equipment to optimize exercise and to provide adequate protection of the participant. In view of this, I became committed to the pursuit of an exercise bra that actually worked. My search began for something that was comfortable, durable, complimentary to the figure, but still provided support. Unfortunately, all I found on the market were elastic compression devices that worked by pressing the breasts tightly to the chest wall to prevent excessive movement. This also caused a flat "uni-boob" appearance and was so tight around my chest that I felt constricted trying to move during my work- outs. Depending on the activity, I sometimes had to wear two bras for comfort and to decrease the impact to the breast tissue.

This gave me the idea to design a bra that can be adjusted in various ways so that it provides support and figure enhancement, yet also guarantees comfort. This product has been tested and modified into the "Dr. Marla's Wellness Bra." The bra is effective, affordable and attractive. I am confident that you will find it a breath of fresh air, (literally, you will actually be able to breathe in it!), after years of wearing the compression bras. This bra was designed for sports but is useful for all of your daily activities. Whether you are an elite athlete, active mom, large-busted woman with a daily routine, or work long hours on your feet at the office or institute, the Wellness bra is comfortable hour after hour and women love it.

One of my favorite things about the bra is that women also have the opportunity to support other women through funds that are donated back to breast cancer education and research. Money is needed in the area of early detection, when breast cancers are small and can be cured with minimal treatment. Mammographic screening is the key to saving lives, and the public and health care professionals need to be educated and reminded of this fact. We need to train and produce specialists that are highly competent at finding cancers early using the appropriate tools. I have such an intense personal interest in this because of a very strong family history of breast cancer, and through experience with my patients, over the years. There is so much hope I can offer patients when these cancers are still small. I am overjoyed at being able to participate in the process of robbing this disease of its potential future. This is where victory lies within my medical field. Unfortunately, it can be a whole different story when breast cancer is already advanced at the time of discovery.

Please help me in this most worthy of causes, and let us as women take control of our own health and buoy others up as well to the same strong state of well-being.

Eat wisely, exercise, go for your yearly screening mammogram, and encourage your friends and relatives to do the same.
